Plunge into this stunning all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage show! When the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up. The power of optimism really can save the world!
Character Descriptions
SpongeBob Squarepants (M or F lead; strong solo singer) He is optimistic, innocent, and boyish; energetic and sometimes hyperactive. This actor should have the ability to move well and be an extremely physical actor. Additionally: Must be naturally funny and have great comedic skills and precision. Target age 20’s-30’s
Patrick Star (M lead; strong solo singer) Well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills; kind and somewhat clueless, an innocent; a big softie, who can also be prone to sudden child-like fits of rage or frustration. Target age 20’s-30’s
Squidward Q. Tentacles (M or F Lead, strong solo singer & dancer) Grumpy, cynical, dry, short tempered, generally negative but lovable! This Actor must move well and tap dancing skills is a plus. Target age 40’s-60’s
Sandy Cheeks (F, Lead, strong solo singer) A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. She acts as SpongeBob’s most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from errupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge and brilliant inventions to aid the mission. Target age 20’s-30’s
Sheldon Plankton (M or F, Lead, strong solo singer) His personality outweighs his size- slick,scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; very greedy, but his heart is still open enough to rekindle a romance with his wife. This character will need to dance and rap skills a plus. Target age 40’s-60’s.
Karen the Computer (F; Supporting lead) Glamorous, a robotic housewife of Plankton. She’s been there for Plankton’s every scheme and plot and has become jaded – she’s been there and done that. Strong comic actress, as well as Singer and Mover. Target age 40’s-60’s.
Eugene Crabs (M Lead, strong solo singer) The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. While everyone is off panicking about Bikini Bottom’s imminent doom, he decides to strike the iron while it’s hot and puts on a huge “apocalypse sale” at his restaurant, exploiting the fear of his fellow fish to make him even richer. Target age 40’s-60’s.
Pearl Krabs (F, Supporting lead, strong solo singer):Mr. Krabs’ bratty teenage daughter. She is obsessed with the rock band “The Electric Skates” and just wants her father to understand her. She has a big voice and an even bigger personality. Target age 14-early 20’s.
French Narrator (M or F; featured speaking role) The French pirate who narrates the play. This actor should have a lot of charisma and charm to keep the audience entertained, as well as excellent diction to accompany their French accent.
The Electric Skates (M or F; featured singing roles) The three members of the rock band the Electric Skates are larger than life rockstars. These actors should have a tough, punk-rock attitude. Actors who can skate and/or do tumbling a plus. No target age
Sardine Devotees (M or F; strong featured singers) These 5 are the leaders of the school of Sardines. They lead the group of sardines to follow Patrick as their guru. Cast actors with big singing voices, and quirky personalities. Target age 11-17.
Mayor of Bikini Bottom (M or F; featured supporting role) The mayor tries to solve the volcano crisis with big words and speeches, but not much action. They are more worried about getting re-elected than actually helping the town. Target age 30’s-60’s.
Perch Perkins (M or F; featured role) The Bikini Bottom action news reporter. Adult.
Old Man Jenkins (M or F; featured role) The oldest Boomer in all of Bikini Bottom. Target age 60’s-80’s.
Larry the Lobster (M or F; featured role) A body builder, obsessed with his looks and building muscle. He is ALWAYS working out. Target age 20’s-40’s.
Mrs. Puff (F; featured role) The town driving instructor. She is sassy, sarcastic, and bitter. The glass is always half-empty. Target age 40’s-60’s.
B.F.F. Letters (M or F; featured backup singers) Literally the letters B, F, F who sing and dance along with SpongeBob during the number “B.F.F.”
Sea Anemones (M or F; featured dancers) These tap dancers become the big chorus line ensemble for Squidward in his imagination. Tap experience a plus. Target age-middle school-early 20’s.
Ensemble (M or F) The ensemble will fill out the world of Bikini Bottom as sea creatures, Townfish, sardines, the chorus of sponges, and an angry mob!!
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are Mon-Thursday, 6:30-9:00* (time increases closer to the show.) Occasional Friday is possible. Daytime rehearsal on a Saturday closer to the show dates.
Cast and Crew Requirements
Cast and crew must download, fill out and submit the documents/forms below. Participants ages 16 & over will be required to volunteer one shift to help the theater operate. Parents of children will also be asked to serve one volunteer shift either during the rehearsal process or during the show run.
