Cinderella Production – Important Documents

Below are links to important forms and documents for the cast and crew of the Community Playhouse of Northport production of Cinderella.

The story of Cinderella

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s enchanting adaptation of the timeless fairytale, Cinderella, was their only musical originally composed for television. When the television program, starring Julie Andrews as Cinderella, first aired in 1957, it was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium at that time. Since then, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella has continued to charm audiences in productions on stage and on television. Based upon the classic fairy tale, and particularly the French version Cendrillon ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s adaptation brings new life to the story of a young woman forced into servitude who dreams of – and achieves – a better life. Cinderella features some of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and “Ten Minutes Ago.”

Character Descriptions

Cinderella – Soprano
A charming young lady with the kindest heart in the kingdom. Sees the good in everyone despite her hardships and suffering from her Stepmother and stepsisters. Dreams of and is determined to find a better life for herself. Must sing very well.

Prince Charming-Baritone
Beloved Prince of the Kingdom. Though handsome and young, this prince is also lonely and unfulfilled. He is charming of course, but also moral, genuine, and in search for something more. Must sing very well.

Stepmother-Mezzo Soprano
Cinderella’s Stepmother. A beautiful, vain, and unapologetically dismissive woman, who is unkind and even sometimes cruel to Cinderella. Mainly concerned with her wealth and her own offspring’s happiness. Sings

Portia-Mezzo Soprano
One of Cinderella’s stepsisters. An obnoxious, self-centered, goofy young woman with a fatuous laugh and, unfortunately, little signs of intelligence. Character singing.
Joy-Mezzo Soprano
One of Cinderella’s stepsisters. A brash, bratty young woman, who never passes up the opportunity to be the center of attention. Not particularly bright. Character singing.

Fairy Godmother-Soprano
An extremely pragmatic, no-nonsense, original, and mysterious character, who helps fulfill Cinderella’s wish to go to the ball and change her destiny. Character singing.

King-Baritone
Prince Christopher’s father. A bit of a fuddy-duddy who loves his son and wife, and always has the best of intentions. Sings “Boys & Girls, Like You and Me”

Queen-Mezzo Soprano
Prince Christopher’s lovely mother. Always wants the best for her son and does her best to keep her husband in line. At times serious, but always affectionate. Sings “Boys & Girls, Like You and Me”

Royal Herald/Steward-Tenor
The keeper of the court. Announces all events and must sing well.
